Dimensional Shift or Ghost
![]() |
This ghost photo was sent by Simon Brown of Simon.Brown@westsussex.gov.uk.
Simon said, "Just to give a little background to the photograph. It was taken at 3AM on 28th August 2004 in Portsmouth, UK. I had received my digital camera as a birthday present the day before and was trying the settings, seeing what it might pick up in the dark. The camera and memory card were both new - I have since used software to ensure there was no previous data held on them. There was nothing displayed on the screen of the camera at the time, I only saw the image the following day. As I said in my previous email to you, the camera's flash was not used, the lights in the room were all off, and the television was not on.
On the right side you can see what looks like folds of material - these are the curtains in my room, dark blue with yellow moon and star figures. The curtains can be seen due to a streetlight about 40 feet away from my window. The fact that the folds of the curtains are more or less in focus I think shows that the camera was not moving at the time, and hence the 'people' in the image were moving rather than the camera 'smearing' the image. - There is nothing reflective in my room which may account for the red hook-shape to the top left of the photo, nor are there any red LEDs either in my room or on the camera.
I have tried to make a 'fake' photo similar to this with no success at all. Some smearing of an image can be achieved, but the length and shape displayed in the J-shape of the red hook I am informed could only be recreated by putting a camera in a mechanical jig which would move it faster than I could. As for the overlaying of the images in the picture with the curtains in my room, I am told this would have to be achieved by feeding a video source back into the camera; mine is a cheap camera with no facilities like this. I think I have ruled out most possibilities with regards to equipment failure/malfunction, but I won't bore you with all the checks I did unless you are particularly interested to know. I must admit that I was pretty freaked out - scared even - when I first saw the photograph. But after a while the fear was replaced with fascination as it's definately the oddest thing that has ever happened to me."
Dr. Dave's Notes:
If we accept the statements by Simon Brown as being true, what can we surmise about this photo? The image would be one of two possibilities, the first is a parallel dimenison overlapping into our reality as in a dimensional shift or second, it is of a ghost. I lean toward the dimensional shift realm as the explanation. How would you evaluate this photo? Drop us an email and share your thoughts.
