These beautiful photos were taken by Dave and Sharon in the Red Rock Canyon, west of Las Vegas, Nevada. The landscape has been crerated through a complex history of marine and prehistoric dune deposits, severe faulting, and subsequent erosion. We encountered wild burros during our scenic drive in the Red Rock Canyon.
Archeological sites at Red Rock Canyon have yielded stone tools, pottery fragments, roasting pits, open campsites and rock shelters. Apparently the Southern Paiute culture of these nomadic people created a successful lifestyle in the Mojave Desert region sometimes after 1,000 AD.
